Cellulose acetate propionate (CAP) is a semi-synthetic cellulose ester produced through the esterification of natural cellulose with acetic acid and propionic acid, combining bio-based origin with chemical stability and broad compatibility. Its high propionyl content, non-toxic nature, and tunable physical properties make it a valuable resin for solvent-borne inks, specialty coatings, and overprint varnishes. CAP delivers excellent pigment wetting, broad solubility in esters, ketones, and glycol ethers, and compatibility with a wide range of plasticizers and film-forming resins. It can also be used to produce flexible packaging coatings, optical films, cellulose acetate propionate plastics, and CAP membranes. Additionally, it is utilized in high-performance ink systems where clarity, flow, and durability are required.
